Tottenham Looking to Sign Antonio Conte as Mourinho’s Replacement

Former Chelsea manager Antonio Conte is the top favorite to take over the manager role at Tottenham. The negotiations are progressing swiftly, and it looks like Conte will be taking Jose Mourinho’s spot in Tottenham soon.

Conte won the 2016-17 Premier League managing Chelsea but got fired in the following season after winning the FA Cup but ranking fifth in the league. He also led Inter to the Europa League final in 2019-20 and finished the Serie A season one point behind Italian champions Juventus.

Tottenham has been without a permanent manager since Mourinho was sacked on April 19, and its officials want the situation resolved rapidly. Last week, they also contacted former manager Mauricio Pochettino, but PSG refused to let him go. Pochettino helped Tottenham get to the finals of the Champions League in 2019, but Liverpool prevented them from winning a historic title.

Daniel Levy, Tottenham chairman, said: “We have been so focused on delivering the stadium and dealing with the impact of the pandemic that I feel we lost sight of some key priorities and what’s truly in our DNA. Since we lost the Champions League final in June 2019, we have invested in excess of £250m in new players,”

After leaving Tottenham, Pochettino told BT Sport: “It was an amazing journey that finished the way no-one wanted it to finish. But deep in my heart, I am sure our paths will cross again. From the day I left the club, my dream is to be back one day and to try to finish the work we didn’t finish.”

With PSG adamant about keeping Pochettino in their ranks and the Spurs only managing seventh place in the Premier League this season, that dream will have to wait. Fans are not too happy about the team barely qualifying for the new Europa Conference League next season. They’ll be keeping a close eye on the new coach, whether it ends up being Conte or someone else. Multiple betting sites have introduced the betting odds on who will take the manager position at Tottenham. Now that Pochettino is out of the picture, Conte is looking like a clear favorite.
