England 1-0 Czech Republic: Three Lions Win Group D

Raheem Sterling scored his second goal at Euro 2020 and ensured England’s victory over the Czech Republic. With seven points, England sealed first place in Group D. Gareth Southgate’s team will face France, Germany, Portugal, or Hungary in the Euro 2020 knockout phase.

Sterling scored in the 12th minute after assistance from Jack Grealish and Bukayo Saka’s great play. The game then slowed in pace.

Grealish and Saka were the best performers of the game, while Mason Mount missed the match since he had to self-isolate after coming into close contact with Billy Gilmour, a Scottish midfielder that tested positive for COVID-19.

Another favourable outcome of the match was that Harry Maguire, the Manchester United captain, managed to play 90 minutes despite his ankle ligament injury in May.

Tomas Vaclik, the Czech goalkeeper, deterred England’s captain Harry Kane from scoring his first goal of Euro 2020. On the other side of the field, Jordan Pickford faced several threats and managed a perfect diving save against Tomas Holes’ shot in the first half.

Despite scoring seven points in the group stage of Euro 2020, England’s performance can hardly be described as brilliant. However, the team hasn’t conceded a goal so far, and Pickford, Everton’s goalkeeper, is in excellent form in this competition.

Lack of goals from Kane remains a problem, despite the effort the captain put in. However, he does have Southgate’s support, and hopefully, will be in better shape by the end of Euro 2020.

The actual test for Three Lions will be the match against the runner-up of Group F at Wembley on June 29, most likely against world champions France, Portugal, or Germany.

The “Group of Death” final matches will take place on Wednesday, June 23, at 8 p.m. BST. The best football betting websites favour France and Germany in their respective match-ups against Portugal and Hungary.
