Aston Villa: Club-Record Deal of £33m for Emiliano Buendia

The Lions have announced a club-record deal that will see Norwich midfielder Emiliano Buendia move to Aston Villa for £33 million. Villa outbid Arsenal in a massive win for the West Midlands club.

Buendia was the Norwich City player of the season for 2020-2021 as he helped his club win the Championship title and get back to the Premier League. By scoring 15 goals and making 16 assists, Buendia was the standout player in the division.

The deal was announced by both clubs and, with all the extra costs, the deal’s value could increase to £38 million.

Buendia is currently the Argentina squad preparing for the Copa America, an extremely popular football event followed by fans across the world. So much so that even the best football betting sites in the UK allow users to bet on it.

Buendia will have his medical done after Argentina’s game against Columbia on Tuesday, and his transfer will be completed afterwards.

In June 2018, Norwich signed Buendia from Getafe for £1.5m. The 24-year-old Argentine spent three years with the Canaries and won two promotions. He made 36 Premier League appearances as the team was demoted in 2019-2020. In his three years, Buendia scored 24 goals and made 42 assists.

Aston Villa manager Dean Smith is confident that this transfer will help Villa move to a higher level. “We’ve got a shopping list and we’ll try to invest wisely. We proved last season with the ones we got in – such as Ollie Watkins, Emi Martinez, Betrand Traore, and Matt Cash – that we were quite astute,” Smith said.

The Villa boss confirmed the team wants to get quality over quantity this year and is on the hunt for targets, especially bargains. Under Smith’s guidance, Villa placed 11th in the Premier League last season, and the club’s owners are now determined to step up their game.
